Service Learning

Student agency is a big part of the International Baccalaureate program here at La Mirada Academy. Student agency means that students have a voice and are given many choices in their learning. Because student agency is so important, we make sure that students have a variety of opportunities throughout their education to take action and ownership of their learning.

Throughout our program here at La Mirada, students have two cumulative projects that focus on service learning. In fifth grade, students participate in a project called Exhibition and in eighth grade, students participate in a Community Project. Exhibition is a culminating project where students explore a topic of interest, take action of their own learning by identifying questions, researching, working with a group, and presenting their learning at the end of the year.

IB Community Project / About

The Community Project is the culminating project for La Mirada Academy 8th grade students. Students have the opportunity to investigate an issue within the community, create an action plan to address that issue, take action, reflect on the process, and report their findings.
