Dear MYP Students & Parents -  On behalf of the SMUSD Middle School Library Techs, I would like to invite you to participate in the First Annual One Book SMUSD program! In this program, students at each SMUSD middle school, along with parents, teachers, school administrators and community members, will be reading the same book, at the same time. The purpose of this program is to:

  • Engage all levels of middle school readers with an interesting and accessible book.
  • Expose students to more diverse literature.
  • Create a community-wide reading culture that supports and encourages literacy.
  • “Foster a page-turning togetherness.”

We will be reading the book Refugee by Alan Gratz. This award-winning, historical fiction novel tells the story of 3 refugees; Josef, a Jewish boy escaping Nazi Germany in the 1930s, Isabel, a Cuban girl escaping Castro’s regime in 1994, and Mahmoud, a Syrian boy fleeing from the conflict in Syria in 2015. All three children go on dangerous journeys, get separated from family members, and witness unthinkable suffering and death.

Please join us in the LMA library on Tuesday, February 4th to kick off #ONEBOOKSMUSD and to pick up your book.  Weekly meetings will be held in the LMA library on Tuesdays from 2:50-3:20 as follows:
