Dear SMUSD Families,

We are excited to welcome volunteers back to our campuses for the 2025-2026 school year! Please review the following important updates to our District Volunteer Program:

Volunteer Levels

Effective this year, SMUSD will no longer use the Level C Volunteer category. We will continue with the following two levels:

🔹 LEVEL A VOLUNTEER
Volunteers who are on campus 5 hours or more per week

Requirements:

  • Megan’s Law clearance

  • Tuberculosis (TB) clearance

  • Live Scan fingerprinting/background check (SMUSD will cover the cost)

  • Online Mandated Reporter training

  • Review & acknowledgment of the Volunteer Handbook

  • Approved volunteers at this level will be issued an SMUSD Volunteer Badge

🔹 LEVEL B VOLUNTEER
Volunteers who are on campus less than 5 hours per week

Requirements:

  • Megan’s Law clearance

  • Tuberculosis (TB) clearance

  • Online Mandated Reporter training

  • Review & acknowledgment of the Volunteer Handbook

Returning Volunteers

Returning volunteers will need to:

  1. Complete a short Returning Volunteer Application

  2. Complete this year’s Mandated Reporter Training

Additional Notes for Returning Level A Volunteers:

  • If you have already completed your Live Scan background check, you do not need to repeat it

  • TB clearance is valid for four years

  • If you already have a Level A badge, please check in with your school’s Office Manager to receive a new 2025-2026 sticker for your badge
