College and Career Supportt

The Student Support Services team goal in college and career readiness is to support students become future ready by exploring the world of work as well as their own interests and skills as these relate to a variety of professions and career opportunities. We also support students acquire knowledge about diverse educational pathways so they can be successful in their transition from K-12 education to post-secondary life.

The San Marcos Unified School District in collaboration with Project next has put together a website where students can access a variety of tools to explore careers and think about their future. You can access the website here:
Future Center

Students are also encouraged to check the California Career Zone website, linked below, to explore careers, colleges, and more! This is a website we use often when working on career exploration school counseling classroom lessons. We particularly focus on the RIASEC Codes and the Career Interest Inventory, exploring Career Pathways through the different Industry Sectors, and completing the Making Money Choices survey to reflect about the relationship between income and lifestyle.

Project Next helps high school students plan and prepare for their future - the future that’s
best for them.

Project Next Future Centers are located on all SMUSD high school campuses. They are staffed by full-time Project Next Career Coaches who work with all high school students, adding value to the work of our amazing school counseling teams.

Project Next’s Career Coaches provide programs and resources that help students discover
and cultivate their interests and strengths, connect to compatible career paths, develop
financial literacy skills, prepare for college and career, and build life skills. All students can
access 1:1 support, ensuring no student is excluded from this critical training due to access
barriers.

Students graduate college and career-ready with resumes in hand, mock interview
experience, money management skills, and an understanding of their interests and strengths.
