College and Career Development

The School Counseling Department's goal in college and career readiness is to support students explore the world of work as well as their own interests and skills as these relate to a variety of professions and career opportunities. We also support students acquire knowledge about diverse educational pathways so they can be successful in their transition from K-12 education to post-secondary life.

At San Marcos Unified School District we utilize the California College Guidance Initiative (CCGI) website to help students and families plan for college. This platform provides 7-12 grade students with individual accounts to explore career assessments, colleges and majors, and academic planners, amongst other supports, and helps them create a portfolio to establish a postsecondary educational path plan. The San Marcos Unified School District collaborates closely with The San Marcos Promise to support our students' college access. The Pace promise program is available to all eligible SMUSD students and provides financial support as well as an opportunity for direct guaranteed admission to the California State University of San Marcos. In addition, during quarantine time, The San Marcos Promise has put together a series of virtual workshops to help middle and high school students continue their preparation for the world of work and college life. This program is called FYI: Zoom in! To learn more about these programs and organization, please click on the following links.
