College and Career Development
The School Counseling Department's goal in college and career readiness is to support students explore the world of work as well as their own interests and skills as these relate to a variety of professions and career opportunities. We also support students acquire knowledge about diverse educational pathways so they can be successful in their transition from K-12 education to post-secondary life.
The San Marcos Unified School District in collaboration with The San Marcos Promise has put together a website where students can access a variety of tools to explore careers and think about their future. You can access the website in the following link:
Future Center
Students are also encouraged to check the California Career Zone website, linked below, to explore careers, colleges, and more! This is a website we use often when working on career exploration school counseling classroom lessons. We particularly focus on the RIASEC Codes and the Career Interest Inventory, exploring Career Pathways through the different Industry Sectors, and completing the Making Money Choices survey to reflect about the relationship between income and lifestyle.
California Career Zone
The San Marcos Unified School District collaborates closely with The San Marcos Promise to support our students' college access. The Pace promise program is available to all eligible SMUSD students and provides financial support as well as an opportunity for direct guaranteed admission to the California State University of San Marcos. In addition, during quarantine time, The San Marcos Promise has put together a series of virtual workshops to help middle and high school students continue their preparation for the world of work and college life. Click on the flyer below to access the sign-in form.
