Principal's Message

Welcome back to all our students and families.

I am filled with excitement as we begin the 2018-19 school year at our new school, La Mirada Academy.   LMA is so proud to be able to offer the Primary Years Program of the International Baccalaureate Program and we are exited to be a candidate school in the Middle Years Program this year.

Our new Tk-8th grade facility is half way done.  We have brand new classrooms, library, design lab, science lab, art lab, new Kinder playground, new play structure for upper grades and brand new technology in each classroom.   Phase two will include a new Gym complex, stage and band room, new locker rooms, cafeteria and new soccer field.  We now have a state of the art school that compliments our state of the art educational program.

Working together with the amazing staff, wonderful families, and outstanding students at La Mirada Academy I know this year together will be filled with greatness and innovative learning as we become the change we want to see in the world. One of our main goals is that all students will continue to meaningfully increase their academic knowledge in reading, writing, math, science, and social studies. We understand that education is very important to the future of our students and will make sure we help them become active, inquiring, life-long learners who will be prepared for college and career as well as for global citizenship.

Our teachers and staff are committed to increasing our students' knowledge by engaging them in units of study that are relevant, challenging, and globally significant. They will model and foster all of the attributes of the International Baccalaureate learning profile. We will insure success in reaching these goals by their daily application of best instructional practices which include differentiated instruction at all academic levels. In addition, our teachers will continue the implementation of the California State Standards. With the introduction of these standards, our students will begin moving towards more integrated, project based learning.

I would like to encourage all families to take an active role in your child's learning experiences at La Mirada Academy.  As an International Baccalaureate school it is our hope that we develop more connections with our families each and every day. Please join us at home and support our efforts to teach our students to respect the diversity in our school and in the world around us, ultimately helping to create a better and more peaceful world.

I look forward to the journey ahead.

Sincerely,

Jennifer Carter, Principal
